Welcome to Greater Manchester Cycling Club

All cyclists are welcome although at the moment all our rides will be based at a leisurely pace for beginners, families and social riders but as the club and riders progress more advanced rides will be available. We are a new club that started with our first social ride on the 26th September.

We already have several members but we hope that by next summer we will have many more. We will be out over the next few weeks with leaflets and printed cycling jerseys along tracks and trails also cycle shops promoting the club.

We are affiliated to British Cycling and are fully insured. Membership forms are now available for download. Over the coming weeks more ride dates and information will be added to the web site but if anyone has any questions don’t hesitate to contact us.

TIPS

Tyres - it's all about the pressure

Tyres come in all shapes and sizes - narrow, wide, slick or knobbly. What they all have in common is some handy info written on the side, which tells you how hard to pump them up. This is normally shown in PSI (pounds per square inch). Most tyres have a recommended range (e.g. 40 - 60 PSI) - 40PSI being softest and 60PSI being hardest .Keeping your tyres pumped up to the minimum recommended pressure will help prevent punctures, make your tyres last longer and most importantly, make your pedaling so much easier.

It's a good idea to get a floor pump with a gauge and check your pressures every week. A floor or ‘track' pump can be picked up from around £10 and makes short work of getting your tyres nice ‘n' hard.

This is also a good time to check your tyres for any excessive wear, cracks, splits or bulges. If in doubt, take your bike along to your local bike shop and get it checked out.
